Emmy 2020 nominees were announced this week. The awards are considered the Oscar of television. To our delight, queer artists and productions are on the recognition list for their work. Emmy 2020 winners will be announced at a ceremony on September 20.
Billy Porter, who last year became the first gay to win as an actor in a drama series, returns to be among Emmy nominees, again for his performance in Pose. With him, Samara Wiley is nominated in the supporting actress category for her work on The Handmaid’s Tale and Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live). Dan Levy is also on the list as best supporting actor for Schitt’s Creek. Other LGBT nominees include Titus Burgess (The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Laverne Cox (Orange is the New Black), Cherry Jones (Succession), Andrew Scott (Black Mirror) and Wanda Sykes (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel).
Lesbian erotic drama Killing Eve received nominations for Best Drama Series, as well as two nominations for Best Actress in Drama for Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer. Jeremy Pope, Jim Parsons, Dylan McDermott and Holland Taylor were nominated by Hollywood. The comedy LGBTI + Schitt’s Creek earned nominations for Eugene Levy, Dan Levy, Catherine O’Hara and Annie Murphy.
In the reality show categories, RuPaul’s Drag Race is in the Emmy nominations for best Reality Show and best reality presenter. Just like the Queer Eye men, they also received a collective nomination for best reality presenter. Untucked and We’re Here were also nominated for an Emmy 2020.
